4-H is For You! 4-H is a fun and educational program for children ages 5-18. The 4-H program is the youth component of the N.C. Cooperative Extension, that is dedicated to helping boys and girls develop life skills needed to be contributing members of their communities. Children of all racial, cultural, economic and social backgrounds are welcome to participate in 4-H educational programs. 4-H is open to all kids – you do not have to live on a farm to enjoy 4-H opportunities!

Tractor Supply Paper Clover Campaign
The fall
Paper Clover Campaign at Tractor Supply Company will be October 8-19. During
this time frame, customers at both Mount Airy and Elkin Tractor Supply Stores can
choose to donate $1.00 (or more) at the register. You will get to put your name
on a clover and these will be displayed in the store windows. 100% of the
proceeds will go directly to 4-H with 60% coming back to Surry County 4-H.
These proceeds can be used to help send children to camp, fund youth
scholarships, and to recognize 4-H youth for their accomplishments. This
spring, we raised a total of $1487, with $892 coming back to Surry County.

Citizenship Washington Focus 2015
Thousands of young people from across America come to the
National 4-H Youth Conference Center every summer to participate in Citizenship
Washington Focus, a citizenship and leadership program held in Washington, DC.
Through a series of speakers, committee work, field trips and social events,
participants learn the importance of citizenship and social responsibility and
are given the opportunity to explore, develop, and refine skills needed to be
an outstanding leader on both a local and national level. Surry County 4-H
hopes to provide an opportunity for several deserving youth to participate in
this program. This program is open to youth ages 14-19 and we will tentatively
be traveling SUMMER OF 2015. If you are interested in the possibility of
attending this once in a lifetime opportunity, contact the Extension Office at
401-8025. Spaces will be very limited.

National 4-H Week!
October 5–11,
2014 is National 4-H Week. All clubs and 4-Hers are asked to
promote 4-H by wearing 4-H t-shirts to school or out and about in the
community. Spread the word about what 4-H has done for you or find a new way to
get involved. We will also have other things going on throughout the week so be
sure to check our Facebook page for updates!
Here are
some more great ways to celebrate:
- Share your favorite 4-H memory on social media (use #iam4h)
- Send a thank you note to a 4-H leader or volunteer
- Recruit friends to join you at your next 4-H club meeting
- Commit to trying something new this year with 4-H & let Whitney know you are committed! (Project Record Book, 4-H Presentation, Volunteer, 4-H Congress, 4-H Council Conference)
- Represent! Wear your 4-H shirt with pride!
During
National 4-H week we challenge your 4-H club to recruit some new 4-H club
members to join you in the REVOLUTION OF RESPONSIBILITY. What exactly is the
4-H Revolution of Responsibility? It is a movement for positive change in every
community in America. 4-H youth are a living breathing, culture-changing
revolution for doing the right thing, breaking through obstacles, and pushing
our country forward by making a measureable difference right where they live.
