Give a Kid a Coat!


The 2009 Give A Kid A Coat campaign begins October 23 and ends November 28. Coat distribution to those that need a coat will be done through The Salvation Army beginning in early November. For more information, call the Salvation Army at 786-4075.

Foothills Food Pantry - Open your heart Christmas Campaign

The Foothills Food Pantry is beginning to organize their Open Your Heart Christmas Campaign. It is their goal to provide everything necessary to prepare a delicious Christmas meal for approximately 400 families again this year. They hope individuals, families, and the community will choose to participate in this year’s endeavor.

Listed below are non-perishable food items that will be delivered to each family.

Sugar, Flour, Salt, Cranberry Sauce, Yams, Cooking oil, Hard candy, Frosting, Stuffing, Coffee Tea, & Cake mix.

WC District 4-H Volunteer Leaders' Fall Day

The 2009 4-H Volunteer Leaders’ Fall Day will be held Saturday, November 14, at the Rowan County Cooperative Extension office in Salisbury.
The day promises to include great workshops and networking opportunities with other county club leaders. The event is free and transportation will be provided. This year’s workshops include: What is ACE?, Project Record Books from A to Z, Goat Basics, Woodworking, Friends of State Parks, Etiquette, Gifts by Nature, and Sew Resourceful.

The deadline to register is Friday, November 6. For more information or to sign up, call the Extension today at 401-8025.

Project Record Book Reminder!

All Project Record Books are due to the 4-H office by Monday, January 11. There will be no exceptions! All record books will be traded with a neighboring county for judging. All those submitting a project record book will be recognized at the 2010 Achievement Night & Talent Show!

4-H Achievement Night & Talent Show!

The Surry County 4-H Achievement Night and Talent Show will be held on Tuesday, January
26, at 6:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Pilot Mountain. All youth are invited to
come and showcase their talent in the first portion of the night’s events. The talent show is open to all youth in the county between the ages of 5 and 19. Pre-registration is required!

For the second portion of the evening, we will recognize those 4-H’ers who submitted project record books, clubs for their community involvement, and we will elect our 2010/2011
County Council officers. Come prepared to celebrate and enjoy all the activities planned on this fun night!

There will a meal provided and registration is required. When registering, please include any family, friends, and/or visitors that may attend. Please register by Tuesday, January 19, by calling 401-8025.

4-H Plant Sale Coming Soon!

The annual 4-H plant Sale will kick off on January 4! Orders will continue to be taken through Thursday, February 25.
To make sure you receive a brochure, call 401-8025 to be placed on the mailing list for these great plants! Types of plants sold: strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, ornamentals, and various herbs.
Plant pickup will be Thursday, March 4, between 8:15 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the Extension center in Dobson.

West Central Teen Retreat!


Mark your calendars for the West Central Teen Lock-in, which will be held January 8 and 9! This overnight excursion is being planned by your district officers and promises to be a great experience for all! If you are between 13 and 19 years old and would like to learn more or to register, please contact the 4-H office at 401-8025. More details to come!
